For many years, Pendo Robi, a mother of three, faced constant financial and personal challenges. Providing for her children was difficult, and the family lived in a cramped, shanty house. With no steady source of income and little knowledge of how to manage her resources, she often felt trapped in a cycle of hardship.

Before a positive lifestyle change
Her life began to change when she and her daughter were both introduced to PLIKEN’S programs. Pendo joined the Empowerment Program, while her daughter enrolled in the Kuza Program. This joint involvement became a turning point for the family, giving them knowledge, support, and renewed hope for the future.
Through the empowerment training, Pendo gained valuable skills in financial management, savings, self-care, and parenting. Equipped with these lessons, she secured employment through the Kazi Mtaani initiative. Although her income is modest, it has enabled her to improve her family’s life significantly. She has moved into a larger, more comfortable house, begun saving part of her earnings, and invested more intentionally in her health and overall well-being. Most importantly, she has grown more confident in raising her children and ensuring they have a brighter future. Reflecting on her transformation, Pendo expressed her gratitude, stating: “I am grateful for what I have learned through PLIKEN. Before, I did not know how to take care of myself or my children. Now, I can save, take care of my health, and guide my children well. My life has truly changed.”

After a period of PLIKEN’s empowerment program
Pendo’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact of PLIKEN’s programs. By engaging both mothers and children, these initiatives empower families as a whole, enabling them to break cycles of hardship and build stronger, more resilient futures.
