Agnes Auko, a mother of 2 young children, once struggled to provide for her family despite her husband’s efforts, as their income was too limited to meet all their needs. Change began when she joined Pliken’s Empowerment Program, and one of her children was enrolled in the Kuza Program, which now covers the school fees and eases a heavy financial burden.
Through empowerment training, Agnes gained skills and confidence to start a small bhajia business, giving her family stability and a source of hope. Beyond financial progress, she also found encouragement, friendship, and a sense of belonging within the PLIKEN community. As she puts it: “Before PLIKEN, I felt like I was on my own. Today, I run my bhajia business, my child’s school fees are supported, and I have found people who feel like family. I no longer feel alone.”
Agnes’s story shows how empowerment goes beyond income; it restores dignity, builds community, and strengthens families. Her journey is a testament to the life-changing impact of PLIKEN’s programs, which continue to uplift individuals and transform communities.
